The progenitor of the oldest branch was Zebulun Eliezer Heilprin (JE 6:322).

The surname Heilbronn or Heilpern (Heilprin) (traditional Roman alphabet spellings of this name) appears in the 16th century.

The Alperoviches came to Kurenitz from the Vilna area. When they lived there, their name was Halperin/Galperin. The original name of all the people with the name Halperin is Heilbron. Jews with the name Heilbron once lived in the German town of that name. When they were expelled from Heilbron, they took the name Heilbron, which over years morphed into Halperin/Galperin/Alperovich
(Heilbronn between Stuttgart and Heidelberg)

These names are all derived from the city of Heilbronn in Wurttemberg, Germany, where Jews have lived since the early 13th century. (The name “Halperin” can be first found in the Middle Ages.)

The principal German variants of Heilbron are Heilpron, Heilprin, Heilpern, Heilpron, Hellbon, Helper, Halbron, Halperin, Halpern, Halpersohn, Halpert, Holper, Alpern, Elperin, and Elpern. Russian forms include Galpern and Golpern, and there is an Italian variant Alpruni.

During the big migration of Jews to the US, about 1890-1914 (and later too), many if not nearly all Alperoviches changed their surname to Alpert, and some to Albert, Alport and Alper. Those Alperoviches, however, who migrated out of the Former Soviet Union from the 1970's and onward, often kept their Alperovich surname
